Rotomolded cases are durable, protective containers for securing fragile or high-value items during transit or storage. Whether they’re used with electronics, medical devices, or instrumentation, these sturdy plastic cases are designed to resist impact, vibration, weather conditions, and repeated handling. They can include foam-filled walls, molded-in hardware, custom colors, and branding.
Gregstrom Corporation is a Made in USA manufacturer of rotomolded cases that also offers value-added services such as tooling, design assistance, and help with material selection. Injection molding, another plastics manufacturing method, can also produce plastic cases, but rotational molding offers valuable advantages.

One-Piece, Stress-Free Construction
Rotational molding creates strong, hollow, seam-less parts by heating and rotating a mold so that resin coats the interior surface. Unlike injection molding, there aren’t any knit lines or molded-in stresses. That means rotomolded cases don’t have weak points at the corners or hinges. They also offer uniform structural performance across the entire shell for greater protection.
Thick, Uniform Walls for Impact Resistance
Rotomolding produces plastic products with a consistent wall thickness, even in complex geometries. These uniform walls improve load distribution and reduce the risk of localized deformation from impacts. In addition, engineers can specify thicker walls for rotomolded cases than are typical with injection molded ones.
Greater Design Freedom with Lower Tooling Costs
Because rotational molding isn’t a high-pressure process, its tooling costs are lower than injection molding’s. Plus, complex geometries that would require a multi-part injection mold can often be achieved with a one-piece rotational mold. Designers can also incorporate features such as molded-in hardware and graphics, reinforced corners and ribs, and compartments or mounting points
Large Part Capability at Any Volume
Rotational molding is ideal for producing large, bulky cases that would be impractical or cost-prohibitive to injection mold. Designers have a choice of rotational molding materials, and this plastics manufacturing process is economical at any volume. That includes low-volume specialty cases and mid-volume protective cases for ongoing programs.
