Why Material Handling Needs Rotational Molding

Material Handling | Rotational Molding Plastic Tanks

Material handling uses rotomolded products for the movement, protection, and storage of materials. Rotational molding, a plastics production process, can create chemical feeder assemblies, powder chemical dispensers, tanks, bins, and pallets. These strong but hollow products have low tooling costs and can be molded in many different shapes and sizes.

Gregstrom Corporation, a rotational molder with over 70 years of experience, can manufacture the material handling products that you need and offers value-added services such as design assistance, material selection, assembly, and testing. To discuss your project, contact us at our Made in the USA manufacturing facility in Woburn, Massachusetts.

The following sections describe some material handling products from our portfolio.

Chemical Feeders

Chemical feeders prepare and automatically dispense the chlorine that’s used to disinfect water systems. As this project shows, Gregstrom produced an integrated unit from six rotomolded parts, one vacuum formed part, and 160 other components. All of the wetted components were made from NSF approved materials. Testing was performed to plumbing and electrical safety standards.

Chemical Feeder Assemblies

Gregstrom also uses rotational molding in the production of chemical feeder assemblies for pumps and pool filters. These material handling products resist chemicals and can withstand repeated cycles. Because there’s no pressure in the rotational molding process, hardware can be molded-in for strength and durability.

Powder Chemical Dispensers

Powder chemical dispensers mix, handle, and distribute pre-measured quantities of chemicals such as chlorine. When rotomolded, these material handling products have uniform walls without the thinning in the extremities that’s common to other plastics manufacturing processes. Rotational molding also supports a wide variety of surface textures and colors.

Plastic Tanks

Plastic tanks are used to store a variety of liquids. Applications include water or wastewater treatment and the storage of chemicals or fluids. Rotomolded tanks are also used in the bulk handling of soaps, detergents, oils, and fuels. These material handling products have strong walls and are often made of plastics such as polypropylene and polyethylene.

Plastic Bins and Pallets

Plastic bins and pallets hold bulk materials and are used in warehouses, distribution centers, and manufacturing facilities. They can also support stackable or nestable designs for more efficient storage and transportation. Moreover, rotational molding for plastic bins and pallets can include features like undercuts and multiple walls.
